A Basic Summary of Tales of Vesperia: The First Strike (The Prequel Movie)
Flynn's history specifically:
Flynn Scifo is originally from the Lower Quarter of the capital city of Zaphias. He is the childhood best friend of Yuri Lowell and the two of them, having grown up in the struggling Lower Quarter, join the Imperial Knights with the desire to change things and make a difference in the Empire, and possibly the world. Flynn is also the son of an Imperial Knight, though he has a complicated relationship with his father's memory, as the man died while, allegedly disobeying orders.
For most of the game, Flynn moves in and out of Yuri’s path. Typically when a situation arises as Alexei’s machinations are put forward (though no one knows Alexei is behind it yet), it is Yuri and his party who runs off to deal with the situation, while Flynn stays behind to settle the populace and restore order. The two friends trust each other to handle their respective tasks.
Flynn is also known to Estelle and the two are friends. While Flynn is not explicitly Estelle's bodyguard, he has obviously served her in some capacity in the palace.
This comes to a head in Dahngrest, where Flynn is meant to deliver a letter of peace to Don Whitehorse, the Leader of the Guild Union so that the Guilds and the Empire can work together. Flynn has instead been given a false letter that would lead to war. Flynn, understandably, is shocked to discover this, as he is acting as the envoy of the Empire, specifically of its heir apparent, Ioder. The letter's contents do not match with the Ioder that Flynn knows and respects and this is certainly a cause for worry and despair. Flynn is imprisoned by the guilds, but Yuri takes his place, allowing Flynn time to return to the Empire and learn the truth of what happened. He is able to get a new letter and return to Dahngrest in time, preventing war from breaking out. Flynn is promoted to captain for his efforts. He also gains two main subordinates, Sodia and Witcher.
When Alexei’s treachery is revealed, that he has grown tired of the World's injustices and desires to purge the World and start over, Flynn joins with Yuri and the rest of Brave Vesperia in combating him. This is a large blow to Flynn, who looked up to Alexei and respected him as the Commandant and as a Knight. But at the same time, he cannot allow Alexei to go through with his plans or continue to hurt Estelle. They first go to the Shrine of Baction, and then to the mobile fortress of Heracles, and finally to the shrine of Zaude, where they are unsuccessful in stopping Alexei and the Adephagos is unleashed. Alexei himself is ultimately stopped, crushed by his own ambitions.
Brave Vesperia moves to find a solution for combating the Adephagos while Flynn remains in the Empire, taking over as Commandant for the Knights and working with Ioder as the World’s Leaders come together to determine what comes next. What comes next is this: throughout the game, Brave Vesperia has been encountering a man known as Duke, who is completely disillusioned with humanity after the Great War. He sees no other way to defeat the Adephagos than by sacrificing humanity to destroy it and returning the world to a more primal state, and he has the means to do it. The underground city of Aspio was actually an ancient city-weapon known as Tarquaron, which will destroy the Adephagos at the cost of the world. As Tarquaron rises into the sky, Flynn joins Brave Vesperia in this final confrontation with Duke.
As the credits roll, we see Flynn supporting Ioder as the world takes steps into its new beginning.
Personality:
1) Tell us about who your character is and what someone’s first impression would be upon meeting them.
Flynn Scifo is the Commandant of the Royal Knights of the Empire of Zaphias. He is a young man of average height, good looking with blond hair, blue eyes and radiant armour. He has a kind expression but also serious, and given his station, he might give off the impression that he is someone who is difficult to approach. After all, he often appears busy and tends to be surrounded by a lot of people, vying for his attention.
But upon talking to him, it's clear to see that Flynn is a kind and driven young man who wears his heart on his sleeve and has clear goals about wanting to help people. He is very much a Knight (in the most chivalrous, King Arthur sense of the word). He is brave, honest, and responsible to a fault. He is kind to his subordinates and his friends, offering a warm smile and an eagerness to help when he can. That being said, it's also fairly obvious that he has a healthy respect for rules and law and expects other people to follow them as well. He is quick to show his admiration for those he respects, notably Alexei and Captain Schwann and has a little difficulty stepping out of the chain of command, particularly when Schwann insists on going by Raven.
Flynn is very much a leader, and one who is determined to lead by example. If the Knights are meant to be a force for good, then they should be seen that way. Flynn holds himself to a very high standard to ensure that the people see the Knights for what they should be and in spite of those who would use abuse their power. This standard might be seen as working too well when we look at his relationship with his subordinates. Both Sodia and Witcher have a deep respect for Flynn and are willing to follow him wherever he goes. However, Sodia is also inclined to take intense action against those that she view as a corrupting influence (Yuri).
It might also be obvious that he's a bit of a workaholic and it's difficult to get him to relax.
2) What is a driving force your character has? What goals do they have, what motivates them, etc?
Flynn's driving force is to protect people and his goal is to rise high enough in the ranks, so that he can be in a position to create laws and effect real change to attain equality for everyone. While he's managed most of that at the time of his canon point, his world is in a period of great re-building and there is still a lot of work to do.
Having grown up in the Lower Quarter of the city of Zaphias, Flynn has been exposed to, while not necessarily abject poverty, certainly a lower quality of life and greater injustice compared to other parts of the city. This motivated him, and his best friend, Yuri Lowell, to join the Royal Knights, and find a way to affect change in the city, both recognizing that there are people out there who would abuse their power and wanting to change the system for good. And that is a goal that Flynn held to where Yuri decided on a different path.
Yuri and Flynn are essentially two sides of the same coin and it is hard not to talk about them in relation to each other. Flynn is the type to see the larger picture and desires to affect change on that level. If he rises high enough in the ranks, he can have a say in changing the laws that exist and can work to make a system that is beneficial to everyone. While politics can be frustrating, affecting change from the top will make it all worth it in the end. This is in contrast to Yuri, who takes the opposite approach of tackling the smaller problems head on and focusing on the issue right in front of you. The two of them often clash over their different ideologies and the way they execute solutions, but are rarely at odds and can see each other's point of view. Most of the time.
It sure would help if Yuri stopped using murder as a solution. That would be cool.
3) What are their flaws as a character? What is something they've messed up, or have done that they regret?
Flynn's biggest flaws are his rigidness and adherence to the rules, and that he is a workaholic.
As a burgeoning Captain, Flynn is eager to be a beacon to the soldiers under him, showing that they are supported and respected by their captain. While this does earn him the admiration of his soldiers, it does also mean that he tends to take on all the undesirable tasks. He is the one who will take that late night patrol shift or stay up to cover that last little bit of paperwork. It also means that he is very unlikely to relax, as he would rather put everyone else before his desires.
His rigidity and adherence to the rules can also make him shortsighted and unwilling to be flexible in a tense situation. It is all well and good to want to change a system, but sometimes, action has to be taken in the here and now.
He also likely holds some regret over not catching on to Alexei and his schemes. As the man always presented as the perfect knight, and someone that Flynn looked up to, it can be hard not to be a little suspicious. It would be fair to say, that rising into Alexei's role as the Commandant, he will not want to command in the same way, and that could lead to over-correcting.
4) Optional: What is something unique and interesting about them, or what is a fun little tidbit that sets them apart from the crowd?
-His cooking ranges from okay to extremely bad
-His relationship with Yuri is such that the two of them can go from arguing with each other to fighting side-by-side and back again in a heartbeat.
Abilities & Inventory: Flynn is proficient in the use of a Sword and Shield and a number of Artes in conjunction with that. Artes are abilities used largely in combat, and can divided into different categories depending on if they are physical attacks, magic attacks, or some combination thereof.
He would likely be entering the game with his sword, shield and armour.

ARMADA SELECTION
Paladin. Flynn is so painfully a paladin that it's almost ridiculous. He's the kind of guy that you look at and ask how can this guy be that good? And he's also the nicest guy ever so you can't even hate him for it. Seriously the most paladin of paladins to ever paladin.
